Wolf Ridge farm prepares for growing season

With several inches of snow still on the ground, it’s hard to imagine that the Minnesota vegetable planting season will soon be here.

Joe Walewski has been directing the naturalist training program at Wolf Ridge ELC in Finland for 14 years. This year, the Minnesota Association for Environmental Education recognized him as its Non-formal Educator of the Year.
A $15,000 donation from Cliffs Natural Resources is allowing a group of low-income students at Duluth’s Denfeld High School to get hands-on field experience from Wolf Ridge professionals.
The morning sun illuminated the red and gold leaves and the sky was cloudless blue in Finland on Sunday. It was a fitting tribute by Mother Nature to a couple whose vision has brought over a half million people to northern Minnesota to learn about the environment.
