Disappointed with recent letter-writer
To the Editor:
I read with interest and disappointment the letter to the editor on Saturday, Jan. 22, written by Stacy Nettinga regarding the city’s outdoor skating area.
This is a case where Stacy wrote to the public without knowledge regarding the city’s outdoor skating rink. The city has provided outdoor public skating at Munroe Park for many years. This year, it was moved to the Activities Center area, with my approval, for personal efficiencies, off-street parking and the availability of a warming area and concession in the Activities Center. Don’t expect judge to be punished by peers
To the Editor:
Judge Mark Marshall has taken a leave of absence after being arrested.
Charge 1: second offense drunken driving; Charge 2: driving wrong way on interstate.
For millions of employed Americans, this would bring a permanent leave called “firing.” What would happen to a teacher or a bus driver? For one DUI, a bus driver receives a one-year leave; for the second, it is for a lifetime. Continue Reading

Herseth Sandlin not really for S. Dakota
To the Editor:
How can anyone believe that Stephanie Herseth Sandlin voted against the health-care bill because she felt it was not right for South Dakota? Why won’t she sign on to the bill to repeal if that was true?
Nancy Pelosi had enough votes to pass the bill originally, so why would she need Stephanie’s vote? She knew Stephanie was coming up for re-election this year and voters were against this bill. Continue Reading
