You’ll probably never hear Fred Wood introduce himself as the Chancellor of the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Wood, 54, a Martinez, Calif., native, was named UMC’s chancellor in May, starting his job on July 2. He succeeds Charles H. Casey, who retired after seven years as
John Loegering, a college professor in Crookston, earned $13,550 on the “Who Wants to be Millionaire” television show that aired Thursday. “That was probably the most nervous I’ve been in a decade,” Loegering said about the show taping last November.

Charles H. Casey has been UMC chancellor since September 2006 and has held several other leadership roles in the university for nearly 35 years, including serving on the Board of Regents and dean and director of the University of Minnesota Extension. His last day as chancellor will be June 30.
A special tribute to the military service of African-Americans was a look back to the past, but organizers said the event also was a way to inspire all people to go out and “make a difference” in their own way just as civil rights leaders have done throughout American history.
