Dave Gunther spent 18 seasons as the UND men’s basketball coach, with one of his priorities being to defeat rival North Dakota State. But Saturday, at local eatery Wild Hog, he was rooting for NDSU. Not necessarily jumping-up-and-down, fist-pumping rooting, but he was pulling for the Bison to defeat Sam Houston State, which they did by 17-6 to win the Football Championship Subdivision national title. UND MEN’S BASKETBALL: Sioux guard Anderson scores 18 in blowout win over Waldorf College

After coming off the bench most of last season, UND men’s basketball coach Brian Jones inserted guard Aaron Anderson into the starting lineup in the team’s regular-season opener against Waldorf College on Saturday. Anderson poured in 18 points, five assists and three steals to lead the Sioux to a 93-62 win over Waldorf at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Sioux didn’t waste much time in separating themselves from Waldorf, who didn’t hit a basket from the field for more than 10 minutes to open the game. Continue Reading
