Tuberculosis testing on the first group of students and staff at Phoenix Elementary was reviewed today. Of the 52 tests read, one, which was a staff member, came back abnormal.
Health officials are continuing to monitor the outbreak of tuberculosis in Grand Forks County announced last week, said Public Health Director Don Shields on Monday.
Eight cases of active tuberculosis, including a student at Phoenix Elementary School, have been diagnosed in Grand Forks County, health officials said today.
It’s not the first time highly resistant cases like this have been seen. Since 2003, patients have been documented in Italy and Iran. It has mostly been limited to impoverished areas, and has not spread widely. But experts believe there could be many undocumented cases.
