Outside the UND men’s hockey locker room, there’s a piece of wall reserved for those who go on to win the Stanley Cup. Right now, there are 12 plaques featuring 10 different former Sioux players who have won hockey’s ultimate prize. As of now, there’s plenty of room to add plaques if needed. And that might be a good thing the way this playoff season is going. As the second round begins, seven former Sioux still have a shot at getting their names engraved on the Stanley Cup.
Angry, drunken fans ran wild Wednesday night after the Vancouver Canucks’ 4-0 loss to Boston in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, setting cars and garbage cans ablaze, smashing windows, showering giant TV screens with beer bottles and dancing atop overturned vehicles.
VANCOUVER, B.C. While the Boston Bruins beelined across the ice to mob him at the buzzer, Tim Thomas tapped both goalposts, sank to his knees and rubbed the ice in front of his empty goal.
But the party isn’t coming cheap for the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, which will shell out more than $1 million for showing everyone a good time by broadcasting the games on giant, outdoor screens and then for paying extra police to protect their safety.
With a fortunate bounce and a flawless goalie, the Vancouver Canucks are heading back to Boston with the chance to hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time.
