Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) – There is a new Arch-Bishop in Denver, and he is Fargo’s own Bishop Samuel Aquila.
While in Rome, bishop of Fargo diocese says U.S. Catholics’ religious freedom under firePartly because they come in the middle of a current political fight on these issues, Bishop Samuel Aquila’s comments seem sure to heighten his public profile. For several years, he has been cited by church watchers as one of the more significant of the 300 U.S. bishops.
Bishop Samuel Aquila of the Fargo diocese and Bishop Paul Zipfel of the Bismarck diocese released a joint document warning Catholics against giving to or working with the March of Dimes, UNICEF, Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Crop Walk because they say the groups have supported abortion rights, contraception or stem-cell research.
Fargo Catholic Diocese Bishop Samuel Aquila says the pope’s recent comments related to condom use do not indicate a shift away from the church’s general teaching against the use of condoms or contraceptives.
The Cass County state’s attorney has declined to bring criminal charges against a doctor at the Red River Women’s Clinic who performed abortions with a temporarily expired state medical license.
