More and more discussion centers on Tim Pawlenty becoming Mitt Romney’s running mate, but at the same time, Ron Paul supporters are considering derailing traditional Republicans like the former Minnesota governor.
Minnesota Republicans endorsed a U.S. Senate candidate at their state convention Friday, but saved their biggest reaction for Ron Paul. To chants of “President Paul,” 2,000 Minnesota convention delegates welcomed the Texas congressman and presidential candidate.
Faced with this twin disappointment desirable candidates being uninterested and interested candidates being undesirable Americans Elect has announced that it is abandoning its online nominating process because no candidate had reached its minimum threshold. This is profoundly depressing.
Mitt Romney was well-prepared heading into Tuesday’s North Dakota Republican presidential caucus, but the chairman of UND’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration said a strong turnout of the conservative base ultimately helped Rick Santorum coast to a comfortable victory in the state.
