GIRL’S BASKETBALL: West Fargo holds off Red River 53-50

The last time West Fargo played Grand Forks Red River, it didn’t sit well with Packers captain Erin Krogh. Krogh and West Fargo had to wait a month for a chance to avenge the 66-46 loss to the Roughriders on Jan. 5. The second meeting proved to be much closer. Krogh scored 15 points to lead North Dakota Class A, No. 2-ranked West Fargo to a 53-50 win over No. 4-ranked Red River in Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball on Saturday. Continue Reading

Roughriders fly by Grafton-Park River to finish season undefeated

With a tie game going into the third period, Grand Forks Red River’s undefeated regular season was on the line. But Red River coach Bill Chase didn’t delve into any fiery speeches in the locker room after the second period. “There was nothing to say,” Red River coach Bill Chase said. “They knew they were playing pretty well.” The Roughriders let their play do the talking in the third period, scoring three goals en route to a 4-1 victory over Grafton-Park River in the regular-season finale at Purpur Arena. BOY’S BASKETBALL: Red River handles West Fargo Packers 71-59 to remain unbeaten

In early January, the Packers built a big first-half lead and took the Roughriders to overtime before losing by seven. In the anticipated rematch Saturday afternoon, however, Red River didn’t need any late-game drama.
