WORTHINGTON There won’t be an official celebration of the Minnesota 60 four-lane expansion project until the entire stretch of highway from Bigelow to Interstate 90 is completed. Progress Edition focuses on details of data from 2010 census

U.S. Census data released in 2011 and 2012 offers a wealth of information about Jamestown and Stutsman County. In today’s newspaper, The Jamestown Sun’s Progress Edition, “By the Numbers,” sifts through the data to give residents a look beyond the numbers to tell us more about our community.
The average Jamestown resident is a 39-year-old man. Not surprisingly, most residents are of German or Norwegian ancestry. Like other more populated parts of the country, the population has also shifted from rural to urban. And the minority population is growing.

Wow. What a difference a year makes. At this time last year, area farmers were struggling with wet weather, immature and wet crops and a long, harsh harvest season. This year, the combines are gobbling up the corn and soybean fields at a dramatic clip under sunny skies. This year’s crops are dry and of higher quality than last year. And, the prices are good, too.
