LUVERNE A towering mural recently unveiled in downtown Luverne merges the community’s past with its present, showcasing local icons like the Palace Theatre, Carnegie Cultural Center and the Hinkly House, along with native sons Jim Brandenburg and Fred Manfred having a conversation at Touch the Sky Prairie.

Bruce Hecksel, of Maiden Rock, Wis., is the artist behind a style he calls “terra guitarra.” Hecksel offered to paint the Terrapin Station mural for cost, using staff and members of his band “Patchouli,” which performs occasionally at the establishment.
Mural represents 600 hours of work over four years
The homecoming was postponed, but the show went on. Grand Forks native James Rosenquist wasn’t on hand at the Plains Art Museum on Thursday morning for the unveiling of his $1.2 million “The North Dakota Mural,” but the work spoke for itself.
A new mural will welcome Miltona Science Magnet School students back to school next week.
