State fines Minneapolis methadone centers

ST. PAUL The state has ordered two Minneapolis drug treatment centers to pay a $1,200 fine on allegations they improperly dispensed the drug-treatment medicine methadone.

Following the deaths of two Northland men, State Rep. Tom Huntley and State Sen. Roger Reinert say they want to hold hearings this fall to determine if more restrictions are needed on how methadone treatment is administered in Minnesota.
Methadone, a drug deemed by the National Institute of Health and the Centers for Disease Control “the most effective treatment for opiate addiction,” is in essence a risk-versus-reward system.
