Longfellow Elementary School students and staff received an unexpected day off Monday in Mitchell to allow school officials to air out fumes.

Smooth start for Longfellow School

Hannah VanPelt said the first day of classes at Longfellow Elementary School was going well, and for a good reason.
“It’s cool,” said Hannah, an 11-year-old fifth-grader. “Because it’s so big and so new.”
Longfellow opened its doors to about 260 students, according to Principal Joe Childs. Students in begindergarten (a preschool program), kindergarten and grades one through five attend the new school. Continue Reading
