Five years ago Duluth’s parks department announced it was considering removing the historic Chester Park ski jumps and surrounding facilities. In a commentary for the News Tribune, I called for the city to not be too hasty in its decisions. Others wrote letters and still more showed up to a meeting of the parks board. Legendary Duluth ski jumper Jim A. Denney, along with his son Jim J., proposed a plan to save the jumps. The parks board passed it unanimously.
