A video of a trucker’s Interstate 29 ride between and through floodwaters north of Grand Forks includes music from “The Who” and a few added surrealistic touches. A second, more straightforward video from the same trucker offers views of deeper “Lake I-29″ driving north of Manvel, N.D., plus more trucks making the water trek.
Interstate 29 north of here is expected to remain closed for the next couple of days as large sections remain underwater and as crews survey damage, said Kevin Gorder of the North Dakota Department of Transportation. That’s more wear and tear on truck drivers, and more money out of their pockets.
“In one of those, “How the Hell Did I Get Myself into This Situation?” moments, a friend and I were returning to Grand Forks from the Twin Cities late Sunday afternoon when we hit a wall of traffic on Interstate 29 north of Fargo that would occupy our lives for the next two hours,” outdoors columnist Brad Dokken writes. “We’ll be talking about what happened during those two hours the rest of our lives.”
This community just north of Fargo was the scene of two water rescues Sunday as flooding in the area forced the closing of 31 miles of Interstate 29 and prompted officials in nearby Harwood and Casselton to the southwest to halt water use.
