Grand Forks housing authority again seeks tax breaks

The Grand Forks Housing Authority could soon win from the City Council something it has pursued for years: tax exemptions on all its properties.
Terry Hanson, the authority’s executive director, is seeking exemptions worth around $38,000 for 81 properties that include vacant lots, offices and other facilities it owns but does not use as low- and moderate-income housing. Continue Reading

Grand Forks Housing Authority could face property taxes for first time

The Grand Forks Housing Authority, which helps provide affordable housing for low-to-moderate income residents, could be facing its first mandatory imposed property taxes, pending a review by the county. The taxing of Housing Authority property is unprecedented in the state, Housing Authority officials said. This year, the total would be a $39,000 hit for the agency.
