Participation falling in state’s sanctioned sports

Pending school board approval in January, the Scotland wrestling team will co-op with Bon Homme starting next year.
Scotland Activities Director Jim Kocer said all five wrestlers who are eligible to return next year are planning on joining the newly merged team. However, he thinks it’s a possible step toward losing the program altogether.

New stadium debuts tonight

Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves estimates that discussions regarding the renovation of Joe Quintal Field began 10 years ago.
Tonight, after three years of planning and $2.9 million worth of construction, the Mitchell High School football team will open its newly renovated home. The Kernels will host Brookings at 7:30 p.m.
“I think anytime you open up a new facility, it’s just a lot of fun,” Graves said Thursday. “There’s a lot of excitement and a little bit of nerves, because it’s been such a long time coming. But mostly, it’s all fun.” Continue Reading
