RAPID CITY (AP) While some critics say the U.S. Forest Service isn’t doing enough to address the pine beetle problem in South Dakota’s Black Hills, others think the federal agency is going too far.
The National Park Service said today the Tooth Lake Fire remains at about 300 acres. The fire is burning in mixed pine and hardwood forest, two miles south of Namakan Lake.
Officials tallying the cost of fighting the widespread wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of northeastern Minnesota say expenses have topped $12 million.
