The time-crunching, sometimes-grueling, but always careful work of screening candidates began 54 days ago. The News Tribune editorial board met with incumbents and challengers in five candidate forums and in nearly 30 one-on-one or, more accurately, “one-on-board” interviews. In addition, editorial board members scoured campaign literature and conducted in-depth, independent research. Some endorsement decisions were easier to make than others, but none were made lightly.
