Nearly 20 years after a study found the facilities substandard, UW-River Falls gained the traction it needs to starts design on a new Falcon Center — known until recently as the Health and Human Performance (HHP) project. Planning efforts for a new facility began in 1999.
Chloe Kinsel scored her team-best 10th goal, Katie Batters scored her ninth, and goalie Gillian McDonald made 12 saves to record her second straight shutout as the Falcon women’s hockey team posted a 2-0 victory over Bethel University last Wednesday in Blaine, Minn.
The UW-River Falls men’s basketball team battled back from a 12-point second half deficit to post a 79-73 victory over St. John’s Saturday, Dec. 29, at Karges Center.
The UW-River Falls football and soccer teams raised a total of $1,504 in separate fundraisers during the month of October for the fight against cancer. The Falcon football team raised $480 for breast cancer awareness and prevention at its home game Oct. 13 against UW-Stevens Point while the soccer team raised $1,024 to fight endometrial cancer at its game Oct. 20 against UW-La Crosse.
Sydney Larson notched a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds, and Erica Melbie added another 18 points behind four 3-pointers for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City as the Falcons tamed the Mustangs of Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 57-49 Tuesday in the season opener for both squads.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, the UW-River Falls Athletic Department will host a Teddy Bear Roundup at four home events.
When the D3Hockey.com preseason poll came out Oct. 18, UW-River Falls’ hockey coach Steve Freeman’s club already accomplished one goal prior to even playing a game.
