Most students and many teachers have accounts on social networking websites, such as Facebook or Twitter, and education officials said there is an understanding of what is acceptable conduct between instructor and student even in the absence of technology-specific policies.

“It was unbelievable!” proclaimed Sister Therese Gutting, principal of Queen of Peace School in Cloquet. She was amazed that at exactly 3:05 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, some 60-70 parents, staff and contractors representatives showed up at the school to move furnishings, equipment and classroom materials from their temporary quarters in the building’s basement into the newly refurbished area overhead.
