The 29-year-old crashed directly into safety nets lining the side of the course after going wide over the final jump. Nick Zoricic is the second Canadian skier to die this season. Germany’s Maria Riesch wins Alpine World Cup overall title Maria Riesch of Germany ended Lindsey Vonn’s three-year reign without putting on her skis, clinching the World Cup overall title after the final race was canceled because of poor weather.
The three-time defending World Cup and reigning Olympic downhill champion had finished second behind her German rival in both downhills at Lake Louise two weeks ago. But she turned the tables at Val d’Isere, one of her favorite stops.
