Jess Kurtenbach of BankWest was among several members of the Mitchell community who took an afternoon off work, rolled up their sleeves and helped United Way agencies Wednesday as part of the Day of Caring.
The event officially kicks off Mitchell United Way’s annual fundraising campaign, with a $450,000 goal set this year.
Kurtenbach, of Dimock, and three other coworkers pulled weeds at Abbott House’s Ernest O. Peters Foster Care Program house at 918 S. Court Merrill. Bushes also were trimmed and eaves were cleared. Continue Reading

Dozens of volunteers will hit the streets today to take part in the third annual Day of Caring to help kick off Mitchell United Way’s 2010 campaign.
Sixteen teams and 135 individuals will work on 24 projects at different agencies and individuals’ homes, said Tom Rasmusson, Day of Caring coordinator. He exceeded his goal of lining up more than 20 projects and 130 volunteers.
United Parcel Service will have a team that includes managers from around the Midwest who are in town for a meeting, Mitchell United Way Executive Director Dave Stevens said. Continue Reading
