UND has signed Dave Hakstol to a new six-year contract that will run through the 2017-18 season. His base salary will be $300,000 and will include some incentives. Since Hakstol took over as head coach in 2004, UND has won more games and scored more goals than anyone in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
UND’s Dave Hakstol has been named Inside College Hockey’s 2011-12 National Coach of the Year in men’s hockey. Hakstol led UND to a league-record third consecutive Broadmoor Trophy as Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Final Five champion, as well as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Region and a berth in the regional championship game.
I watched with great interest this week as Sioux coach Dave Hakstol made a strong public statement that the ramifications of keeping the name at UND may come with too great a cost to the school. As staunch a supporter as he has been over the years for the name and logo, one could see the agony within him in reaching that decision.
Speaking at his weekly press conference, UND men’s hockey coach Dave Hakstol said that it is his opinion the NCAA won’t change its stance and that he believes the Big Sky Conference will move on without UND.
