Josey Page kept pushing for the finishing line, determined to avoid her fourth consecutive third-place finish in the 100-meter dash.
The Carrington senior passed Central Cass junior Gabby Grommesh after a slow start. In the end, Grommesh made sure Page earned every step.
By a mere thousandth of a second, Page secured her first title in the 100 with a time of 12.407 seconds at the Class B state track and field meet on Saturday.
