The Senate Transportation Committee voted 7-1 to approve a measure that would prohibit all beginning drivers from using cellphones or other electronic devices until they can get an unrestricted driver’s license at age 16.
More than half of Americans, 51.7 percent, no longer regularly use a landline telephone in their homes, a recent National Health Interview Survey by the CDC shows.
Industry analysts are already predicting that Apple’s iPhone 5, widely expected to be unveiled on Wednesday, will be the best-selling smartphone of all time. Each new iPhone has outsold the previous version, and the iconic device has been the top-selling mobile phone since its 2007 debut.
A new iPhone is getting much of the attention, but Apple’s older phones will get a software upgrade this fall as well. A new operating system sports a different mapping service and a built-in bond with Facebook.
