Pet Franklin: Easy to love, hard to cuddle

April 4, 2012 in DL-Online

My father has a genuine pedigreed pet rock. It comes from a long line of famous rocks. Its ancestors are found among the rubble of the pyramids and the Great Wall of China. Continue Reading

March 28, 2012 in DL-Online

When I read papers, text messages, e-mails and so on I frequently find myself thinking, “Do you even remember how to write?” It’s a sad day when people don’t use proper English. Continue Reading

A much too brief stay turns into a lifelong sisterhood

March 21, 2012 in DL-Online

Way back in December I didn’t know what it was like to have a sister. All I had ever had were brothers. When I learned that my family would be hosting our eighth exchange student, I was more than excited. The fact that I was going to have a new sister fascinated me. Before Siri came to live with us I didn’t know what it felt like to be able to have someone that close to you. Continue Reading

Though snow has been missed, this skier is happy spring is here

March 14, 2012 in DL-Online

If you’ve been outside recently, you may have noticed that the weather is warmer than the month of March usually brings. The weather forecast shouldn’t be saying 65 degrees on March 13. With the melting of the snow, it’s finally time to embrace the upcoming spring whether it be reluctantly or not. Continue Reading

The snow that never came

March 7, 2012 in DL-Online

As I looked out my window last Monday and saw all that beautiful glistening snow, I was jumping for joy. I could barely see out my window, the snow was so thick. Finally, my blizzard was here. Continue Reading

Life’s complete: Kissed by Olympian

February 29, 2012 in DL-Online

In anticipation of the weekend ahead, I developed a severe case of Birkie Fever this past week. The American Birkenbiner/Kortelopet took place last weekend; it was as exciting as ever.
My dad and my brother, Dylan, skied the 54-kilometer race (the Birkie), while my friend, Zach, and I skied the 23K race (the Korte). In order to ski the Birkie, you must be 18. Sadly, I am not 18, so I have to participate in the Korte instead. Continue Reading

As you may know, it was Polar Fest this past weekend. The weekend was filled with events such as the fishing derby, the spaghetti dinner, the frozen bowling and the Polar Plunge. Siri, our friends Julia (from Germany) and Maria (from Peru) and I decided that we would join in on the festivities and brave the Polar Fest Plunge. Continue Reading

February 15, 2012 in DL-Online

I keep hearing it on the news, over and over again about how lucky we are this year to be having a mild winter. Apparently, we are supposed to be happy. Continue Reading

Sensible shoes and a quest for ice cream

February 1, 2012 in DL-Online

This past week was Snoball week at DLHS. The week was filled with dress up days and craziness.
The week went by with classy day, blaze orange and camo day, red and white day, backpack day and tie dye Friday. I find it odd that we were allowed to have a backpack day when we aren’t allowed to carry backpacks in school. Some people dressed up and some people didn’t. The whole week led up the Snoball dance. I wasn’t going to go, but then Siri and our friend Julia convinced me to go. Continue Reading

January 25, 2012 in DL-Online

As some of you may know, I will be spending a year abroad next year. I’m headed to Chile through the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Continue Reading
