Lowell “Ted” Gillett, former Bemidji State University president and founder of the Joint Economic Development Commission, died Sunday morning under hospice care in Bemidji. Services are pending with Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. “Bemidji Leads!” Chairman Jim Bensen called Gillett “Bemidji’s best friend” during an April 2010 awards ceremony.
