In my opinion, street lights are not the issue. Planning and enforcement are the issue. I believe that a better flow of traffic would help … that is reduce the number of streetlights and increase the amount of time that it takes for the lights to transition from red to green… making for greater time for pedestrians to cross.
As to the 2nd street SW issue… I could not agree more. Something needs to be done, add a 4 way stop at 7th street and 2nd Ave SW. If something is not done soon there will be an accident involving a pedestrian.
The same should be done on 2nd Ave SE…it is a potential public hazard having free flow traffic running past the police station. These simple, inexpensive changed this will push traffic to its designed areas.

There is not enough enforcement of speeding, reckless driving and cell phone talking now, main street is like the Indianapolis 500 at times, it’s ridiculous. I can only imagine the speeds that can be reached with out lights. Come Jamestown wise up, look at the situation and how grave it really is and do the right thing. Some people don’t even pay any attention to the crosswalks around the schools it’s terrifying to think that some child is going to trust the driver to stop for them or even slow down and start through the crosswalk.

Many drivers avoid first avenue because of the mis-timed lights. That’s where the extra traffic on 2nd Avenue SW is coming from. IF the lights were synchronized so that a driver travelling the speed limit could drive through on First Ave, the traffic on second would diminish. Also, if it is known – as the Mayor stated – that “Nobody drives the speed limit..” on these streets, isn’t it time to enforce the limits? The poor driving habits – tailgating, phone calls, speeding, etc. need to be put in check before the pedestrian is safe.

We should do what the consultant says or we are WASTING money on consultants. As for pedestrians leave the lights there with the button that walkers can push to cross.

consultants are only used to validate existing opinions. if the consultant’s opinion is different, then we won’t use it. But if it’s the same as the city leaders’ opinions, then it will be used to justify spending money. apparently.

Timing is a great idea… because in an essence if you have lights timed you increase traffic flow… but something has to be done on second avenue. Simply stating that speeding is an issue and allowing a single stop in the middle is not only irresponsible it just makes no sense.
