Hospitality blesses giver and receiver

During the fifties in the west of Ireland where I grew up, it was usual for neighbors to drop in for a chat at any time. Over a cup of tea they would exchange gossip and share what was worrying them. In the large cities however, people were not so easy-going. The need for privacy and anonymity made the sharing of hospitality difficult. As those who were raised in small rural communities discovered, when we deny ourselves the company of others in our homes it’s not just the news and refreshments that are lost. Continue Reading
