What needs to happen is that the OPD needs to chop at least one of its full-time officers. If the chief and remaining full-time officer actually did some work rather than sit on their fat behinder areas the city would save some money and the same amount of work could get done. The problem is not with salaries. The problem is with the existing department not being productive. Another thought is to get Chief Gilson to come back from retirement. Since his departure the city is much less safe than it was while he was here. The OPD is in crisis mode. The leadership is inept. Something dramatic needs to happen to change the downward spiral. Increasing salaries/wages is NOT the answer.
