“Financially, it makes sense,” Smith said. “It dresses up an old, iconic building that we have in Mitchell.”
I have lived away from Mitchell for over 20 years including Colorado, Texas, Florida, and Vietnam. When folks ask about where I lived, they don’t recognize “Mitchell” but the do remember visiting The Corn Palace..
Remember, it is not just some old, iconic building. It is THE one building in Mitchell that visitors remember! Even the very proud Texans that I live amongst now recall two unique characteristics of Mitchell, the pheasant hunting and The Corn Palace.

The ‘Corn Palace’ is an iconic building and deserves to be maintained. In this renovation I hope they do not change the character and ‘glitz’ it up so much that it becomes like a carnival exhibition. In my travels from Europe to Asia the one thing that is admirable is the existence of buildings that are as they were built. They are maintained, cleaned and used. Improve the utilization through necessary improvements…..but keep the character from what it was meant to be.
