While i’m pleased that something is going into that vacant space, I am a little disapointed that it is a senior living/memory care facility. While CG might be underserved in senior living housing, I see this as a missed opportunity for retail. There are THOUSANDS of homes north of 70th along Hinton. These homes do not have easy access to any type of retail (excluding Holiday Gas Station).
The Beilenberg development in Woodbury will immediatley get the lions share of the economic activity from these homeowners who will choose to drive north instead of driving several miles south to the retail on 80th. This would have a been a perfect spot for the retail type of development that is needed.
Instead, we will continue to spend our dollars in Woodbury (and its closer shopping) than in our own city. One thing that would be helpful….. The current location of Custom One Homes and the SWC Telecommunications office should be MOVED to allow for retail in the existing strip mall that is there.
We need a laundry facility, coffee shop/wine bar, liquor store, etc, etc, etc…. Those things could be put in our existing space.
