“If the truth prevails at the hearings, then Obama cannot continue to govern.” AMEN! And that can’t come soon enough!

Mark your calendar, ellamay. January 20, 2017.
The “war policy” is coming to an end, thanks to President Obama.
Some facts: No US troops in Iraq, with the end of that senseless invasion; a draw-down of US troops in Afghanistan, to be completed in 2014. NO knee-jerk unilateral military action against Iran. No US troops on the ground in Libya. No expressed desire to put US troops on the ground in Syria. Decreased military spending. There is much more to do, of course, but this is definitely progress.
If you look at who’s taking the most “war-like” positions — pushing for military intervention in the above — you need look no further than the hawkish Republicans, including Sen. John McCain and others.
Anyone want to challenge these facts?

That Liberal kool aid must be good……………

It’s very good and increasingly popular. More and more people are buying it.
But it’s not for everyone. It has side effects that some might find unpleasant. It can lead to clearer vision, a more open mind, fewer mood swings, enhanced cognitive reasoning and increased levels of tolerance.
And, oh, there’s no bitter after-taste.
Well-loved. Like or Dislike: 42 20
I guess the weakening of the US by Jimmy Carter that lead to the Iran Hostage Crisis. Or Bill Clinton not authorizing to take out Bin Laden when the chance was there must not be bitter for some people.

Your response to eastender’s invitation to challenge the facts was an epic fail.
Care to try again? No excuses, no dodges…try to stay on topic. Compare this administration’s “war policy” with that of the previous administration.
When you’ve finished up with that, feel free to address the “international respect” issue mentioned in the article. Compare and contrast the “international respect” level that existed under Bush, with the “international respect” level of the current administration.

I mix vodka with Liberal kool aid and it still doesn’t taste good.

As I said, it’s not for everyone. Don’t blame the vodka or the kool-aid. You might be suffering from some type of chronic disorder. If you already have a bitter taste in your mouth, there’s not enough kool -aid or vodka in the world that can fix that.
Hot debate. What do you think? 26 12
I’ll buy some Everclear and mix that with the liberal Kool-Aid. Maybe that will make it palatable although I doubt it.

“No expressed desire to put US troops on the ground in Syria.” Exactly, we should just keep drawing lines in the sand about the use of chemical weapons, and then when they cross them, back up another 1/2 mile and do it all again. WEAK!!! IRS, Benghazi, AP scandal. I HOPE the “hawkish” Republicans keep pushing and FINALLY hols this farce responsible for his actions. Pretty bad when even John Stewart questions why the president gets his news FROM the news reports when HE is supposed to be the man in charge! “Compare this administration’s “war policy” with that of the previous administration.” Nothing’s changed except for more indiscriminate killing of civilians by drone attacks. As far as his respect and credibility with other countries? Zip, zero, zilch. If he had any, they wouldn’t continue to disregard his words and threats. WE are a joke as a country since he took over. Sit back a while and watch, even the loyal shall see what a failure this is turning in to, though they will never admit it.

Its an interesting question trojan. By definition the answer is no. But of course NO president can do everything in their power to stop one specific event. With hindsight there is always more we could have done.
Lets take your line of reasoning and ask similar questions of you. Should GW Bush and Dick Cheney wake screaming every night wondering if they had done just a little (not everything in their power) to stop 9/11? Should they have done even a little due diligence to avoid the Iraq war? Perhaps. Should the Bush administration have done more to stop the 50+ attacks on embassy personnel. Probably. Certainly i think the answer is yes with regards to the Iraq war, but I am less sure they should have foreseen 9/11. But people differ on that viewpoint.
So, lets deconstruct your question. Post Benghazi there are some indications that it might have been predicted. Of course, if you read folks with less interest in scoring political points they ALL note that there are thousands of such reports sent in every year, its part of the bureaucratic CYA culture. We do not have the money or the manpower to make everyone perfectly safe (interestingly enough, this is the argument used by pro gun people to say we shouldn’t do anything on gun control – because no reasonable approach will stop ALL events). Yes, in hindsight we should have foreseen Pearl Harbor, we should have foreseen 9/11, we should have foreseen Benghazi. Apparently, given his cables Ambassador Stevens himself did worry about violence in Benghazi. But hindsight causes us to forget that leading up to these events there are always hundreds if not thousands of such reports where things do not happen.
So, getting back to your question. To the strawman question of did President Obama do everything in his power? No, but of course, no president ever could.
To the right question, did the State Department and by extension the US government, do what was needed? Its a harder question to answer. We would need to know more about the vetting process for reports, how many such reports come in, what the budget for security was, who decides that budget, etc. Weirdly enough, the hearings so far keep focusing on irrelevant questions (the lack of clarity afterwards) and less on the reports about what went wrong and how to fix it. From what I have read there is plenty of blame to go around, including among the Republicans who repeatedly slashed the security budget. Of course, in the bubble, such concerns do not get raised.
To answer your implicit question, does Benghazi matter? Yes, everything matters. Should it be a focus of our Republic the next 2 years the way the Lewinsky matter was? It shouldn’t be. We certainly did not spend this much time deconstructing the many attacks on embassies and consulates during the Bush administration. But hey, its not like we had time back then, we had two wars to think about (one brought on by an administration that totally botched every piece of intelligence leading up that war). Nowadays there is nothing else for Congress to be doing, right?

“Do you think OBAMA and CLINTON did everything in their power to stop the Benghazi attacks???

Chicago politics at it’s finest. Obama knew very well what was going on in ALL of these instances. Me thinks they are desperately scrambling now to find someone to fall on the sword for him, and they said Nixon was a criminal. Watergate wasn’t near as bad as these scandals. When will the left start calling for HIS resignation?

Do you people realize that it was legal to do that with the AP? Did you people know that last year the Republicans were calling for this investigation? Did you people know that no warrant was needed to look at the AP? Do you know why no warrant was need? Because in 2007 when the Democrats wanted to make a law that said that you needed a warrant the Republicans filibustered it so it could not become law? Did you that under the Patriot Act the government is allowed to do this? Did you know that under the 2001 war acts that the President is allowed to use drones as he pleases? Get your facts straight for once. And was Obama or Clinton suppose to do to stop Benghazi? Did you know that the Republicans changed the emails that were released about Benghazi? Issa should talk since this is what he did. Issa was one of 21 House members who opposed the Free Flow of Information Act of 2007, a measure that would have forbidden federal investigators from compelling journalists to give evidence without first obtaining a court order. The bill included a section that specifically forbid subpoenaing journalists’ phone records from “communication service providers” to the same extent that the law protected the journalists themselves. Now he whines about what he did? This bill had been co-sponsored by Obama and the Republicans from Bush on down were against it.

Stan, I will ask you the qusestion, do you think Obama and Clinton did everything in their power to stop the Benghazi attacks ?? From everything I’ve read or listened to in the hearing, they were asked for additional security and turned their shoulder to it, and then after it happend, Obama didn’t hardly mention it for 3 days fearing it might hurt his re-election, I know you won’t see it this way, but by looking at the facts it’s hard to not see it this way……………..

What were they suppose to do? It is not like this was some long running battle where you even had an idea who the participants even were. No one knows what could or should have been done. What send 4 guys in? What would that have done. Now you tell me what should have been done? Why are you so concerned about this and not all the attacks under Bush? Why are you not concerned that 4,500 US soldiers died because of Bush’s lies? Where is your indignation over that? The silence from the right is deafening on that. The right knows that Bush lied since it has been proven over and over and still no outrage.

You remember Robert Gates don’t you (Sec. of Defense appointed by Bush II)? Guess what? He said he would have done the same thing as Obama and Clinton. Do you know what that means? “The right knows that Bush lied since it has been proven over and over and still no outrage.” Did he lie, or did he just believe Bill Clinton who said he had evidence that Iraq had WMD’s as early as 1995? Or maybe he just believed the house and senate intelligence committees who both said Hussein had WMD’s for which he got bipartisan authorization from both houses of congress to use force. I was wondering how long it would be before someone jumped in with the “blame Bush” rhetoric. And as far as Benghazi being done? I’m sure that’s exactly what our incompetent administration wants everyone to believe. Sit back, I’m sure it’s not done by any means. Should be fun watching the twisted ball of yarn unwind on them.

“Did you people know that no warrant was needed to look at the AP?” No, a warrant wasn’t needed, but a subpoena IS! Before they can secretly seize phone records they must have a subpoena and guess who HAS to sign those subpoenas? Eric Holder, doesn’t sound so legal when you add ALL the “factual” information does it Stan?
Poorly-rated. Like or Dislike: 12 28
You make it sound like “subpoena” is a dirty word! Such drama. Ha!
Legal experts — and I know you’re not one — say that in this case the issuance of secret subpoenas and its aftermath — was perfectly legal. Eric Holder was doing his job. They “secretly seized” phone records using a subpoena and, as required by law, advised the AP that they had done it in a letter . The letter of the law was followed. No laws were broken. Got it?
This will likely not mean much to you, but hopefully others will understand. I’m not going to attach a bunch of Googled articles and videos to prove my point. You can do that on your own.
Where is the concern from the right about who actually killed these four Americans? That’s exactly why this is all a political stunt. First, blame Obama because an election is nearing. Then blame Rice because of a possible secretary of state job. Now blame Clinton because she may be running.. in 2016. Conservatives want a circus. And they are sure creating one.
Also, no one is blaming Bush for Benghazi.. just pointing out more conservative hypocrisy. It’s odd that Republicans wouldn’t have called a trial for Bush after he lied, started a war of choice (for his own benefit) that resulted in thousands of Americans being killed. Obviously, every life is valuable but that is why it is so shocking conservatives only seem to “care” during a liberal administration.
If conservatives had more on their agenda then oppose everything Obama proposes, our country would be in a much better place.. our so-called “credibility issue” would be improved. Why we vote individuals into government positions that publicly state they hate government is beyond me.
“Legal experts — and I know you’re not one ” Are you sure? After 8 years of legal and criminal justice training with over 30 years of civil process experience, I would like to think that I know what I’m talking about when it comes to subpoenas, etc.. However, being a retired teacher as you are, I would expect you to think you know everything ( which I assure you, you don’t). A subpoena can be considered only after all reasonable attempts have been made to get the same information from other sources. What attempts had they made to get the information they desired? Beings NO ONE knew they had obtained the records, I’m pretty sure they forgot the “reasonable attempts” portion. WHO did they serve the subpoena on, requesting the information? Why do they seem to forget everything, like names, etc. when they are questioned? Some day, (HOPEFULLY), we will have a president that KNOWS what is going on, and don’t depend on the press to advise him of what is going on in his own administration ( which is total B.S. he knows EXACTLY what is going on). Keep defending and spinning but as someone said in the past, “The truth shall set you free.”

Let’s hear it for the “know it all” retired teachers!
So, with your extensive legal training, you should know:
1. You direct your questions to the persons who have the answers. I can’t help you. Mr Holder’s phone number: (202) 514-2001.
2. You don’t “assume” anything. You can’t be “pretty sure”. (No records obtained? No reasonable attempts? Are you certain?)
3. You are innocent until proven guilty.
4. You don’t let your personal biases interfere or influence. (Politics, gender, race.)
5. You explain yourself clearly in well-thought-out sentences.
6. You don’t SHOUT. (Unless you’re on TV.)
7. You correctly attribute your quotes. (Not just “someone”, but Jesus.)
8. You rely on facts. Not “facts”.
In every instance, you failed. But it seems you acknowledge that no laws were broken. That’s a start.
I apologize. As a former teacher, I probably should not have told ellamay that she “failed”. I should have put it this way: “How do YOU think you did? What grade would you give yourself?” And, as a legal professional, she’ll be honest in her evaluation.
What a great article in today’s Globe about all the newly-retired teachers! Congratulations to them, and thanks for their many years of service to the District.
Shall we move on?

You seem to be over looking the fact that they did not NEED a subpoena to obtain these records from the AP. Why did they not need one? Because the Republicans filibustered the bill that would have made them need one. Since by law they did not need one what laws were broken?

“Why did they not need one? Because the Republicans filibustered the bill that would have made them need one. Since by law they did not need one what laws were broken?” Private records always need a subpoena. Call your cell phone provider and tell them that you need someone elses phone records.

Wow, that is low even for a liberal to blame Bush for the terrorist attacks on 9-11-01. I am shocked that somebody would say that. People should remember that on 9-11 our country was attacked by cowards who murdered over 2,000 people. Trying to blame that on the President is just not right. Blaming Bush for that is wrong, just like it would be wrong to blame Clinton for the first trade center attack, or for McVeigh’s attack. Cowards attacked the country on those dates, not the sitting President at the time of the attack.

You’re wrong, greatfan. And your shock is misplaced.
New evidence surfaced as recently as September 2012 that clearly shows that the Bush Administration ignored repeated warnings.
This is not an invention of the liberal media. Every media outlet, from ABC News to the New York Times to CNN (well, maybe not Fox News) , covered it. Just Google the question: Did Bush ignore warnings about 9/11?
Prepare to be be shocked, but for another reason.

See, now here’s where an apostrophe, (plus an *e*), would be appropriate, because it would then mean “you are”. The word “your” means something entirely different.
You must have an apostrophe deficiency of some sort. Earlier you attempted to pluralize “crickets” by spelling it “cricket’s”. Or were you trying to make “cricket” possessive? No, that makes no sense with the context either.
