I’ve seen lots of support for saving the roundhouse, as well as criticism of the council’s vote on social media, and now a letter here supporting saving the roundhouse. Lots of good points have been brought up for trying to save the structure, but, they ignore the fact that the council has had access to information (on both the site and building, as well as the developer) that the bulk of folks judging their decision have not seen. The building has been sitting empty, and cold for close to 40yrs. The damage that has been done to the foundation is likely extensive. In addition heating this building would cost an enormous amount, which would be a huge burden on any new (or experienced) enterprise. There is a reason that so many others have passed on utilizing this building. We can’t save every dilapidated building, just because it’s old. I really wish we could save it, but it would be an irresponsible gamble with public funds. Sometimes the hard decisions must be made. Kudos to the council for making a hard decision, that in my opinion (with the facts I have) is the correct one for the city and area around it.
