A qualified engineer could confirm the fact that the current Pierce County jail was specifically engineered and built with the ability to add more floors on top of the existing ones if the need arose in the future. Yes, we need more jail space and a safer way to get the accused from the jail to the courtrooms. No, we don’t need to foot the bill for a completely new, separate building, if additional floors can be added on to the existing building.
