The problem with such a poll is it is not an accurate reflection of the reality of the proposal. Do you favor a background check to keep violent felons and mentally deranged people from getting guns without infringing on the 2nd amendment? Sure. Do you support background checks that mean you can’t give your son a firearm when you die or so you have to go pay $XX.XX to go have a background check if you want to sell your brother your 870 20 gauge for his boy and all your guns must be registered with the federal government, No way…
The devil is in the details with any proposal like this and when you get beyond the simplistic question designed to illicit the response you want to advance your position, it becomes much less supportable. It is like asking if you support apple pie and baseball. Sure who doesn’t. . But then come to find out the bill says if you are going to eat apple pie, you have to join this govt program that costs $20,000 a year and you can only eat the apple pie they make their which isn’t good apple pie. Now who is gonna say yes?
Background checks are supported by the vast majority. Gun owners, non gun owners, GOP, Dems, all have a majority support on that issue.

Any poll done by the Star Tribune is in my opinion suspect. They have a very liberal slant to there whole newspaper.

I used that poll to show Minnesotan views…which do reflect the same nationally. Heres a non-liberal poll.
