The winter that won’t go away

Enough already!
That seemed to be the collective mood in Douglas County Monday after another winter storm wrecked routines, closed roads and schools, and froze any notions of spring. Continue Reading

Obviously, this proves global warming is real. *rolls eyes* Yep, it doesn’t matter what happens — it all proves global warming. Below “normal” temps prove it, but so do above “normal” temps. (Hey, exactly who decided what is “normal” and what isn’t?) Lots of hurricanes in the Gulf states prove global warming, but so do few or no hurricanes. More severe weather proves global warming, but so does less severe weather.
And to think that 35 years ago, the climatologists were saying we were headed for a “big freeze” because of “global cooling.” I wonder what they will be saying 35 years from now.
Oh, and if you don’t like the weather:

You did notice there are two watching the one in the hole working didn’t you? They must have forgot their shovels at home as they aren’t leaning on them.

Seems odd that so much conclusion can be derived from a photograph that probably has a total span of about 1/250th of a second of elasped time. Gosh…I’m quite positive we could never capture any other occupation in a moment where the worker is standing still…heavens no…good grief….

So, let me get this straight: This is a day when the mall was closed, the schools were closed, I-94 was closed, and we’re picking these guys to rip on? Seems like we’d be better off getting on our knees and thanking them for doing a tough job, in miserable conditions.

Mike, let’s not get carried away. Blowing and drifting county roads and I-94 are not downtown Broadway. Big difference. You must know someone who works there. Plus, this repair was 3 blocks from ALP. Were you just going to leave a huge hole in the middle of the road and fix it in a couple days when the weather got better? Follow ALP truck #9 around sometime and see what gets done.

I think the spat here illustrates perfectly the futility of the global warming discussion:
During this 1/250th of a second, it appears as though 2/3 of ALP workers do nothing. We should cut their pay, fire at least half of them and retrain all of society to watch them closely and remind them to get to work during all the times they aren’t being productive!
During a comparatively equal length of time in World history we have seen 1.4 degrees of warming and an increase in the number and degree of severe weather occurrences. Let’s pick something for an assignable cause; and make sweeping changes based on our interpretation of something we cannot even pretend to fully grasp!
Just so there is no wondering: I am using absurdity to illustrate the absurd, which is a form of sarcasm.
Utility workers and state and municipal highway crews are continually the brunt of ridicule like this, and we need to think about how much of their day you are seeing when you drive by gawking at the one(s) who stop during that moment you are driving by.
Just like with what we can tell with our less than a couple hundred years of records (less than 1/2.5 millionth of world history) we cannot tell the actions of this work crew over the course of a day based on this pic (1/7.2millionth of a work day).
Just food for thought,
