Runners will face fresh snow, cold weather on Saturday
March 15, 2013 at 1:03 am in The Jamestown Sun
Last year’s Runnin O’ the Green had some of its best weather ever, according to founder and lead organizer Larry Knoblich.
“Last year we had an all-time high (temperature) and no snow on the hill,” he said.

I think Dale Gallagher’s letter to the editor on Thursday was spot on.
Hot debate. What do you think?

I think it is spot on as Dale states that “If you are a runner and in a quandary, I have a suggestion. Go for a run on Saturday, send a check to Camp Grassick and stay far away from the Runnin O’ the Green.” It is unfortunate that there was some confusion by Dale to whether or not this is an event targeting competitive runners. I have enjoyed this event for the last 10 years since moving to Jamestown. It is a great opportunity to gather with friends from the area and to invite friends to town on a day where Jamestown is “the place to be”. That is not often the case. My advice is to embrace the event or just lay low on Saturday. To those who are offended or adversely affected by participants please accept my apology on their behalf, we will continue to do our best to encourage our fellow runners to be courteous and respectful. A sincere thanks to the law enforcement members who are well prepared and in my opinion are professional and often enjoyable in the way that they interact with the “runners”.

Well said Chuck. The bottom line is the money goes to a great cause and Larry Knoblich puts his heart and soul into this. To those who are offended by a few drunken idiots then I suggest you stay in your warm home during the day. Problem solved laddies.

I had a good time at he run this year, however I called it a night early, from the cold weather. I am sad to see no mention by the Jamestown Sun that several of the bars on the official run didn’t donate anything to the charity, AGAIN. At least some of the bars that made more money on Saturday than they will the rest of the month get to stuff all that money in their pocket instead of giving a little to help out a great cause, they should receive awards from the chamber of commerce for such incredible money making strategies. Maybe those bar owners that do donate can learn something from them, if you give some of your money to charity you will find yourself out of business. In all seriousness though I wish more people would speak out about the lack of donations from some of the bars on the run, but almost no one does, so I will take your silence as a sign of support for their greed. I guess I must be alone in thinking that if you are gonna make over $20,000 or more in a single day, you should donate some of it to the charity that makes it all possible.

Die a quick death? Why you so negative all the time? This is a great event for a great cause and will only get bigger. Sure the numbers were down this year from last year but last year it was like 70 degrees. I always look forward to this run. It’s like a reunion every year. Another job well done Larry and volunteers.

Lance, no comment from you on the individual who rented the civic center for a band, has he or will he donate any or all of the proceeds to Camp Grassick? He he doesn’t donate a considerable sum, call him out like you have the bars. The run is for raising money for a great cause, some of the bars do donate throughout the year, so saying they don’t donate isn’t right. If you have the list of bars that have donated and their amounts, here is a great place to show it.

I know some of the other bars on the run put that add in the paper and did not include the civic center event because they were upset that they didn’t get included in the festivities, which was a clear sign of jealousy. Funny how the most of the bars that put up the ad mentioning how they are proud to be part of the tradition don’t actually donate anything to the charity, it is hypocrisy at its worst, they are just upset they missed out on even more money then they are already making that day.

The event at the Civic Center was put on by the Individuals Motorcycle Club. Don’t they do some charity work or an event of some kind?…
