Absolutely one of the worst designed overpasses in Minnesota! I take an alternate route. The wait at the lights is ridiculous. I cross at 80th or Jamaica and drive the sidestreets instead. Its much less aggravating.

I agree with John. The back-up at rush hours there are horrendous. The no right turn coming off 61 is just as bad.

So are we waiting for a vehicle to hit one of these semi truck trailers before we make a change to the intersection?

The city rejected MNDOT’s design from the “get go”-we got it anyway. A lot the tanker truck traffic used to go through Newport. Newport no longer allows them on their streets. Newport wanted two overpasses, one at the north end and one at the south end. The southern one would’ve handled the refinery traffic and all they needed to do was upgrade the SPP overpass a bit. I’ve yet to hear from anyone that they like the overpass design. It’s as if the people that designed it, don’t know how to drive. We’re stuck with it.
