Federal judge demands changes to Minn. system, says it’s too restrictiveST. PAUL Many Minnesotans may be perfectly happy to see sex offenders tossed behind bars, with jailers throwing away the keys. Continue Reading

If a federal judge should decide to rule for the release of sex offenders, then I think one of the requirements for regaining their freedom should be that they cannot go on any public assistance programs or any kind of financial support from the public. They should be required to become entirely self-supporting via full time employment even if it is minimum wage. The reason I say this is because I believe bordum or having too much free time is one of the worst things for these people. Make them take full time employment and keep them busy and working hard. If they decide that is too much to ask of them, then go back to jail and stay the hell there for the rest of their lives.

True…we would pay something if they happened to get government aid. But examine the real idea. Incarceration for not having a job. Remove whatever crime they did (and COMPLETED their sentence for), the idea to prison someone because of money is reverting back to debtors prisons of the Medieval age.

Click Red, I remember when incarcerated persons were taught or given the opportunity to practice a trade while in prison. I know of someone who taught furniture carpentry to prisoners who made office furntiure for state offices. This was one of many programs which would have given them the opportunity to acquire some skills prior to being released and able to getting a job on the outside. But that was stopped by outside interests.

I would rather pay for them to stay behind bars, instead of letting them out to molest another innocent child.

Did any of you actually read the article? The issue is that there are no treatment programs and people are being held in hospitals that are really jails. They are being held for what the might do and not for what they have done. These people have served their prison sentences and then were re-sentenced again with no hope of release. All Minnesota has to do is set up an actual treatment program that some may finish and be able to be released. They really do not have to release them n the end and problem solved. When people start to find it ok to imprison someone for what they MIGHT do who is being barbaric?

He was let out by Tim “I have never seen a fee I did not like” Pawlenty. Following his release and the egg on TPaw’s and the Republican party’s face in Minnesota is when they really started cracking down. Funny thing is the ones here calling for their heads are the same people who scream about the US Constitution. They do seem to be skipping over the part where double jeopardy comes into play. But then the right have always picked and chooses what parts of the USC they like. Then ignore the parts they don’t.
