Hudson High School choral director says music is chosen for quality

Andy Haase has been the director of Choral Activities at Hudson High School since 2001. He says that throughout his years teaching in Hudson he has had one guiding principle when it comes to the music he selects for performance: to expose his students to the highest level of musical literature, whether sacred or secular. Ms Heaton, this is a good story but you have omitted the most important part: What exactly is ” the district’s most recent policy statement regarding the balance of music genres performed at HHS concerts ” ? I have attended every single HHS choir concert in the last five years. Please note that I am not a employee of the HHS, the school district or anyone beyond a Hudson resident that waits eagerly for each new concert. The leadership and creativity provided by Mr Hase and Ms Heisler is second to none. The concerts are spectacular and moving. To learn the the school district means to change the formula that these two dedicated professionals have created is a sad moment indeed. Are we on the sad road to political correctness??? Please elaborate or provide otherwise just what is this new policy.

Yes, one complaint and the speech police are out in full force! That is one thing this school board and district are very good at ….creating policies. Never mind the hundreds of compliments that have been made over Mr. Haase’s performance over the past how many years. Hudson school district is extremely fortunate to have someone of his caliber on staff.
Perhaps, just perhaps, the school district might have bigger issues on its hands. Seems that the board could focus their energy on more productive matters….space for learning, academic rigor, student safety, etc. Truly a sad article. Glad that Mr. Haase is sticking to his position on choosing the most musically instructive and challenging works for his students. Kudos.
