Walker shrugs off White House’s characterizations of budget cuts on state; 13-year-old is latest sno-machine victim; no Oscar for Wisconsin producer; more state news

Wisconsin News
Five days before automatic cuts to federal spending take effect, Gov. Scott Walker says he doesn’t expect a big impact for Wisconsinites. Also, the first of three votes that would expand mining in Wisconsin may occur today, and a hearing Wednesday could shape whether individuals and news organizations must pay for certain public records. Plus more state news. Continue Reading

I always thought the $10 seatbelt ticket was a joke. So do most drivers. Raising it to at least $100 will make a difference in the number of people buckling up.

White House pushed media hysteria over sequestration cuts, or facts?
Depending upon which newsource you want to believe, sequestration cuts amount to 1.5 to 2.5 percent cuts….another way of looking at that is to look at your own budget and ask if if is possible for you to cut $1.50 – $2.50 out of every $100 dollars you spend. I think a lot of us have had to cut our budgets more than that in the last 4-5 years.
Obama has demonstrated his reliance upon lying to gullible low-information citizens to push his agenda. Time to look for facts: danieljmitchell.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/earth-to-new-york-times-please-show-us-these-deep-spending-cuts-you-keep-writing-about/

So Barrett wants to keep residency requirements in his city. Why, because it created such a thriving economy in East Berlin?

I’m touched with the concern Obama is showing his sequestration cuts will have on our lives.
But, Mr President, why are you granting special access (the opportunity to meet with you 4x/yr in a special meeting and to attend other WH meetins) to donors who give/raise $500,000 to your campaign-turned-activist organization Organizing for America? Shouldn’t those rich people be taxed more so your cuts don’t hurt us “little people”? And why is it only people with money, or monied connections, are given this special treatment? How about turning all that money over to the US Treasury to fund the sequestration cuts YOU’VE forced on us?

“Obama is not forcing the cuts”
Obama approved the sequestration plan laid out by 2 of his staff people, who then passed it on to Sen Reid. Obama owns all the impending cuts, and what’s worse, had 15+ months to broker a deal with Congress that would have avoided the sequestration cuts. Yes, the Rs agreed to sequestration so are not blameless, but Obama has been more concerned with campaigning, even post-election, than governing. *
New taxes happened in the “fiscal cliff” negotiations. And really, do you expect Congress to pass tax legislation that REALLY hurts the “rich”? Have you considered that every new regulation issued by the EPA, IRS, or DOE (to name a few) has the consequence of adding more to the cost of goods….basically another tax on each of us because business passes on those costs to consumers?
As far as I’m concerned, add all the taxes you want. Add a VAT tax. Tax the heck out of everyone. At some point even you will have had enough of the government in your pocket. Want a present day example of Democratic policy? Look at Detroit, where only 47% of homeowners are paying their property tax. **
And since you seem to be okay with Obama and the Dems using money to push their agenda, then you must feel it is wrong to attack the Koch brothers who use their money to push their agenda.
And with all that access bought by individuals/groups to Obama and the WH, will this result in more crony capitalism? Obama established quite a record with providing green companies with stimulus dollars in his first term, only to have many of them go bankrupt. ***
What’s the cost of Obama’s crony capitalism to taxpayers? “……In the 1705 government-backed-loan program [alone], for example, $16.4 billion of the $20.5 billion in loans granted as of Sept. 15 went to companies either run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers—individuals who were bundlers, members of Obama’s National Finance Committee, or large donors to the Democratic Party. The grant and guaranteed-loan recipients were early backers of Obama before he ran for president, people who continued to give to his campaigns and exclusively to the Democratic Party in the years leading up to 2008.” ****

Really? If that’s the case, shouldn’t teaching positions in other parts of the state be vacant also? If Walker is “waging war” on teachers, then every school district should have numerous unfilled positions.
How about a little research and facts?
Miwaukee SD quickly cut a contract deal with their teachers, pre-Act 10, delaying the effects of Act 10 on the district. Teachers “won” while forcing continued high property taxes on local residents.
I spoke with a relative who lives in a 1st ring suburb of Milwaukee and asked him why Milwaukee couldn’t fill positions. In the order he gave me:
1. When Act 10 was being debated, hysteria swept through the Milw. teachers who (mistakenly) thought their retirement benefits would be affected, causing an abnormally high number of them to retire.
2. His son substitute teaches, sometime in the Milw district, and his son has said racial tension is very high. Who wants to teach in a school where a brawl may break out at any moment?
3. It is a discouraging district. His son had an extended temp position, and when parent-teacher conference time came around, the only Black parents he saw where the parents of the A students. You can imagine how difficult it must be to try to teach a class where a good % of the kids drag the class down with poor attitude and little effort.
4. The residency requirement may be a part of the problem, but in his opinion since teachers have a year (maybe 2?) to move into the district after being hired, he questioned its effect.
5. Have you looked at the violent crime rates for Milwaukee? Would you live in a city that has: “In 2010 the city violent crime rate in Milwaukee was higher than the violent crime rate in Wisconsin by 320.04% and the city property crime rate in Milwaukee was higher than the property crime rate in Wisconsin by 108.76%.”? *
Walker may be proposing one remedy for Milw SD problems: letting teachers live in communities where they feel safe, and provide an escape from the madness that is Milwaukee.
Of course, WI could go the way of Michigan; where the state went in and took over local school districts and governments that were going down the drain.

“In fact, the final deal reached between Vice President Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2011 included an agreement that there would be no tax increases in the sequester in exchange for what the president was insisting on: an agreement that the nation’s debt ceiling would be increased for 18 months, so Obama would not have to go through another such negotiation in 2012, when he was running for reelection.
So when the president asks that a substitute for the sequester include not just spending cuts but also new revenue, he is moving the goal posts. His call for a balanced approach is reasonable, and he makes a strong case that those in the top income brackets could and should pay more. But that was not the deal he made.”
Where is the honesty, not only about the details of the sequester agreement, but with Dems in general? Why in the world should any deal be made with Obama and the Dems? All they do is turn the facts around to blame the Rs, and their word is worthless.

And for a look at what Democrat policies regarding welfare are doing to this country, take a look at this example which uses Massachusetts for its baseline. But hey…let’s keep growing entitlement programs…it works so well in other countries.

Look at what democrat policies are doing to the country?
Well, There was a surplus in 1999 and 2000 until the republicans took total control. The results were the worst attack on US soil in history, two bungled wars and a debt that was doubled while leaving the next guy the worst recession in history. Our problems are caused by loss of revenue from that recession and 4 trillion spent on the needless wars. It is amazing how some people want to let republicans back in power. That is the definition of insanity.

Detroit has been under Democrat control for 60 years, and is on the verge of being declared bankrupt and taken over by the state.
Keep trying to re-write history. A little checking shows the 2008 housing bubble crash the result of Clinton’s Community Reinvestment Act. An article just published on the recently completed study by the National Bureau for Economic Research can be found at: directorblue.blogspot.com/2013/02/nber-yep-bill-clinton-andrew-cuomo-and.html
I realize then-Senator Obama voted “present” rather than yea or nay to engage in war so no way can he be responsible for any military action. It’s a good thing Obama admitted on Friday he’s not a dictator.
Let’s agree on one thing: any politician, D or R spends too much money. As Congressman Sean Duffy got Ben Bernake to admit, there is too much spending going on.
