Sanford Power is essentially a sports acceleration program, which the Rec Center has had for years. The Rec appears to be looking to Sanford Power for a more formal, established program to install for better results.
Avera already has their own acceleration program, so the Rec and Avera have been competitors in this market of athletes for years. Why should they bring Avera in? It’s just another opportunity for Avera to monopolize the local healthcare market and every ancillary service to healthcare, one more of which happens to be acceleration. I’m not in favor of Avera teaming up with the Rec Center.
Also, isn’t the city council kindathe pot calling the kettle black? They just engaged in “closed back door politics” in their handling of the ice arena, not giving the likes of Palace Builders and others a fair chance to compete for that project. It sounds like the Park Board already consulted both Sanford and Avera, and they liked what Sanford could do better.
Shame on the council for their apparent double standards.
