If Lynn Helms has really taken the time for serious archaeological consideration why is he creating mitigation plans without consulting with the State Historic Preservation Office, or the Tribal Historic Preservation Office? Since when is he an archaeologist, or geoarchaeologist? One has to have a Masters degree in the field of Anthropology and be permitted by the State Historic Preservation Office to create these mitigation measures. His plan of mitigation is furthering site destruction, is not scientifically proven to protect sites, and it is state sanctioned. He also doesn’t specify whether or not the fill material is going to come from a source that has been culturally and environmentally approved. If it is not he could be approving the destruction of more than one cultural, and natural resource.
