Column – Anything scientific must, of course, be a leftist lie
February 14, 2013 at 6:00 pm in Alexandria Echo Press
There is nothing more stubbornly reactionary than those who deny anything and everything scientific. Facts to these people are nothing but pesky nuisances or, worse, lies disguised as “facts” by the liberal news media. Continue Reading

One needs to keep in mind who is funding the research grants. Do they ask for research that supports their solution for the problem they are searching for? How many causes are being developed to divert attention from real problems that politicians don’t want to tackle. Unite the masses against some safe issues like how big your soft drink container is or kids playing without offending some sector of society. We certainly don’t need research to find out how drugs affect crime rates and family problems. We can’t admit open borders rob jobs, consume social service budgets and overtax police departments. After all, we might offend potential voters. While we pay some unemployable people to sit home, we give a pass to the imported labor that isn’t too good to do unskilled work. So, just keep funding studies to support safe issues and then you can ignore real issues and the constituents that don’t want their gravy train upset.

Such hatred and disdain, Mr. Dalman! This diatribe implies that anyone who doesn’t consume the pabulum that the ‘liberal news media’ spouts out is a rampant misogynist, with preposterous, male-centric views. Furthermore they are all block holdouts with pretzel logic and are paranoid conspiracy theorists. Though I disagree with the specific case he cited about the backwards politician that said raped women won’t get pregnant if they didn’t like it because their body would shut down; that was just pure stupidity.
I would challenge Mr. Dalman to find me a case where a politician EVER said raped women; or any woman, is better off barefoot and pregnant as he infers.
I would contend that this is another example of slanting and selectively regurgitating bits and segments in order to serve one’ own viewpoint. The arrogance and flippancy with which he wrote this is enough to make a person consider not reading a publication that would repeatedly publish this garbage from one this arrogant and hate-filled.
News media on both sides of the aisle; Fox News on the right and CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS on the left (sorry if I left someone out) constantly filter and boost selectively in order to serve their own purpose. It seems nobody just reports anymore…UNFORTUNATELY.

I waded through Mr. Dahlman’s liberal talking points tonight just waiting for him to get to global warming. As expected, he did. Global warming–the issue liberals cling to like some sort of Holy Grail. Beyond dispute! There is no argument! The scientists are unanimous! Anyone who dares question this is a flat-earther!
I graduated with an economics degree (more years ago than I care to admit). But I had to take a pretty rigorous science core and one of the most valuable lessons I learned taking astrophysics, for example, is that scientists can draw the circle around the arrow with the best of them. Mike (above) is so right when he suggests followng the money when it comes to scientific research. These guys who are predicting we’ll have beach front property in Pennsylvania are basically the same crowd in 1975 who were telling us that the next ice age was nigh. Were they lying to me then or lying to me now? Or both?
There has been ample evidence over the last decade that global warming theorists have indeed been playing fast and loose with the truth, to the point of fraud in some cases. Yet the faithful, or should I say guileless, believers like Mr. Dahlman are incapable of exercising the least bit of skepticism when it is absolutely critical to do so.
Look back in history. For every Galileo there were a thousand alchemists. These guys ain’t Galileo.
“Paranoid conspiracy theory” so Obama can take over the world? Nah, I just think Obama is as gullible as you are, sir. And that’s being kind.
OK–gang of five. I want to see those five dislikes 24 hours from now. I’m counting on you. Maybe you could take a few minutes out of your Saturday to tell us all what you’re thinking, or are you afraid to do that?

Thank you, Gang of FIve. You were right there–24 hours later–just as I thought you would be, like a train on schedule. But what does it take to make you write what you’re thinking? I really want to know. C’mon–any idiot can click on a thumbs down or thumbs up. I want to know what you’re thinking. Let’s hear it.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Judging by the last presidential elections, there are a lot more people in Minnesota and the country that would “click” on the thumbs down icon that simply don’t care to waste time and energy aruging with someone who is not willing to change their mind. That last opinion is based on your word choice and tone. It seems like you are a bit paranoid about what the “gang of 5″ have to say, when in reality their ideologies would not fit yours and no one would change their mind. Am I right or am I right?

Paranoid? No–bored maybe. My tone was intentionally confrontational, because I’d like to see some of the lefties come back and post on this site they way they used to. Area Voicies was a lot more interesting in prior years. That’s all.

Mentioning the cooling hysteria in the 70′s brought back memories. A major producer of CFC’s, DOW chemical, funded research into Freon’s effect on the atmosphere. This led to a ban on their own product. Not as well publicized was the fact that they were also the major supplier for the replacement gas used in refrigeration. The spotted owl was found to be endangered and logging was prohibited in it’s habitat. Research funded by a large forest products company. A competitor of the one that owned the protected trees. A business is tasked to make their product more marketable and their research will support that end result. Recently, the post office announced it will reduce service to preserve operating money. Defenders say the P O is not intended to make a profit and don’t address the fact that changes in technology are making the P O less of a necessity. Since the government is not a business and has no profit motive, their funding of research is used to advance an agenda. Evil “Big Oil” can be replaced with mass transit and centralized housing . Ethanol could replace petroleum. Solar and wind could replace coal. And when the private sector overcomes an energy problem, the government can slow it down by halting a pipeline. Interesting how oil is now being moved by rail vs pipeline from the Dakotas. Warren Buffet, an advisor to the President, just happens to own the railroad. So, when the government funds research, look for a motive. Cargill has a lot invested in corn syrup and therefore has a market for their product. We don’t see any push to study the health effects that fructose has on us, but panic resulted when “Twinkies” goes bankrupt. Oh, yes, be careful when gulping down more than 16 oz of corn sugar. It’s not good for you.

So you couldn’t refute my statement. Whenever a leftist has nothing they resort to personal attacks, typical.

I don’t think either the left or right can really say they are honest. I mean come on, you are saying one side lies ALL the time? Always is a pretty strong word and in this case you are wrong. The left does lie, but not always. The right does lie, but not always. If you can find an elected official that has no political agenda but doing what is right by all of his/her constituents then you will find a politician who doesn’t lie (much).
