So, a local sales tax. Does that mean that only people that live within the city limits have to pay it? They’re the ones that vote on it. I live out in the rural area. Your food beverage tax that was voted in by the citizens of DL did nothing for our township. But I have to pay it. The same thing for the projects that you have listed are for the citizens of DL, again does nothing for my township. If you can’t budget for these projects with the money that you receive then maybe you can’t afford it and shouldn’t do it. That’s the way my budget works.

There’s a simple solution to your problem… Shop in a different city.

For me, not a problem. For people with a limited income, seniors come to mind, it is a problem. I just think DL is getting greedy. It’s all want and not need.

Who is “limiting” their income? Everyone is free to earn as much income as they can.

Let’s not forget, the State is proposing new taxes on items that we’ve never had to pay taxes on before. Plus, if building a new school in the DL school district is passed, the people in that school district will be seeing their property taxes going up. Adding a local sales tax is just nuts!

“From each according to his means, to each according to his need” did you forget about that in the voting booth? I thought those higher taxes were just supposed to be on those wich wascally wepublicans.

A city sales tax in Detroit Lakes? I don’t have to drive over to shop there and I won’t if they pass a city sales tax.
