After every high profile shooting, and we have had many in the last ten years, the nation and many states rush to pass laws that will “prevent” future such tragedies. Yet, we continue to have more shootings and we keep passing more laws. I understand the human need to do something, to respond. However, I don’t think we can pass enough laws to prevent determined, often deranged, individuals from commmitting these terrible crimes. Look at drunk divers who kill more people each year than guns do. Despite tougher laws the numbers of arrests climb annually. Is anyone enacting prohibition? My point is that we can’t rely on bans and more gun laws.
