Column – More guns are not the answer
February 7, 2013 at 6:00 pm in Alexandria Echo Press
I want to thank all of the readers who responded to my recent column about assault weapons. Some e-mail messages and letters were written in wholehearted agreement. Others were downright nasty and, as is so typical, mostly unsigned. Continue Reading

Dennis, cheer up. The PC movement is making progress. Little kids are being diciplined for drawing pictures of guns and recently one was brought to justice for throwing a pretend gernade on the playground. I don’t think you should judge a whole section of society by the actions of 99 percent of them. Isn’t that what you are so quick to remind us of when some repulsive actions are exposed by the media. BTW: You neglected to add STYLE to your reference to assault weapons. Also, why do athiests inject GOD into a topic to make a point, but won’t allow GOD into the schools and government. I think that when we knew we answered to a higher power, we didn’t have to worry about mental cases who don’t fear any consequences for their actions.

I wonder how many people in California are wishing they had scary looking semi-automaic firearms to protect themselves against one of the indivaiduals who was entrusted by their government to protect and serve them.
Dennis, just because someone has polar opposite political views than you, does not make them a raving lunatic. If that were the case, many of us would say the same about you.
As far as our AG goes, Holder is the only AG to ever be found in contempt of Congress. Our Nations highest law enforcement official, found to be flaunting Federal law. The President claiming executive priviledge on his behalf? Why would the President get involved in an issue that (at the time) had nothing to do with him?
It’s hard to take this administration seriously on gun control when they were, themselves, illegally trafficking weapons across the Mexican border. I say they clean up their own act before they start talking about banning my (and those individuals fearing for their lives in CA) means of defending myself.
Dennis, Do you take any personal responsibility for your own safety? If so, how?

I don’t think I’ve ever read such a rant filled newspaper opinion piece as this one before. And the writer actually thinks the paranoid ones are the pro gun rights people?

This article ties in well with the one lamenting the downhill slide of newspapers. This article and others like it are why newspapers are becoming an endangered species.

Anyone who doesnt think that these gun bills will lead to confiscation, is just plain crazy. It happened in Canada, and it will happen in America. Please take the time to look at this link to see how letting one bill pass, will lead to another. Please, do not let this happen. Take a minute and copy and paste this link below to find out for yourself.

These gun bill rights WILL lead to Confiscation if we as the american people allow them to. I will not comply, nor give up my rights as an American Citizen. I am born and raised an American Northwoods Hunter. I was taught to hunt by my father and his father before him. I will die an American Northwoods Hunter. I will teach my sons and daughters to hunt, I will pass my guns down to them, as they will to their children. We cannot let one bill pass, as it will lead to another.

My apologies for ranting and replying on my own comment, but how can anyone seriously “dislike” this comment. And if you do, please leave an intelligent reply for doing so. ESPECIALLY someone who reads the Echo Press, in whom I assume is from this great state of Minnesota. Minnesota holds the highest traditions of hunting and sportsmens in the US. These are the roots of Minnesota citizens, cuz why else would we live in an area where we put up with 30 below weather. It is because the men and women of this state are true outdoorsmen. If you arent one yourself, than I guarantee that you know someone, or have someone within your family that is. Minnesota has a low record of gun involved incidents, as we take pride in the great hunting our state has to offer, dont punish the great american hunters for the low act of violence that some crazed lunatics have created. We have enough gun laws, no more need to be passed. Divert your mind to mental evaluations and psychiatry……… So please, anyone who dislikes this statement, please leave a detailed reason as to why, because saying you dislike this statement is like saying you disagree with the true Minnesota traditions our forefathers have passed on to us. What’s next? Banning our fishing poles? Taking away the great heritage of Minnesota known as the “Land of 10,000 lakes”? One thing leads to another, and these proposed guns laws will lead to ruining our Minnesota heritages.

Just about every time I post, there are almost always five “dislikes” within 24 hours. I suspect that it’s the same people every time. They don’t have a cogent argument to make-they just don’t like anything resembling a conservative point of view.

Dennis, you state that more guns is not the answer, how do you actually know that, you must live in this perfect world where you take every firearm away and all violence will go away, well I hate to burst your bubble, but that’s not going to happen.
The firearm is not the root of all evil , but some people have a easier time placing blame on the firearm instead of the person behind it…….
