I have no problem with persons owning “military type assult weapons”. Enforcing laws that are already on the books would be a better strategy than pushing new laws. New laws only effect those who follow the law and have no effect on those who use firearms to harm others.

Thats your problem Alice…you research nothing on your own. Educate yourself and especially the media made up name of “assualt rifle”…all guns can be “assault” type weapons. You do relaize that 99% of people owning guns are good people right?
I’d encourage you to read the constitution as well. The constitution simplifies what these weapons are for.
You and the people of your ilk trust the government to take care of you without question…I’m afraid of you people more than I am my neighbors with “assault weapons”.

Will you give your definition of
“military type assult weapons”,
It’s a commonly used phrase, but I’ve never heard a definition of it.

The public does not own military rifles, those are fully automatic, selectable to semiautomatic. The public is entitled to semiautomatic and single shot bolt action. The look alike military rifles are altered so they can not be used in full auto mode, but use the same caliber shell. No rifle used by the public should be called an assault rifle since that is not it’s purpose. It’s the leftist nuts that think guns are assault weapons simply because they do not like them. All this ban stuff is doing is causing the largest sales event of rifles, handguns, ammo in years.

Just what do you use your gun for, Alice?
Hunting? (you kill animals?)
Protection? (you would shoot another human, even if they were trying to kill you?)
Sport? (please give us your score)

So if someone comes in, a criminal, with a semi-autiomatic weapon, shouldn’t you be able to defend yourself with like weapon?

I’m trying to understand how a background check becomes a reliable indicator of future mental health. Mental health issues seem to be the common denominator of the crazies who commit mass shootings. Should there be mandated yearly mental health screenings of every citizen, every year? (except of course, illegal aliens) What about outlawing viiolent video games, music, books?
Outlaw guns, and law abiding people are defenseless. Crazies will find a way to kill people, if not with a gun then a knife or ax. Shouldn’t we outlaw all potential weapons? And why haven’t we outlawed automobiles? They have been also been used to intentionally hurt and kill people.
Norway has some of the toughest gun control laws, yet that didn’t stop a crazy kid from shooting 77. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws of any city in the US, yet over 500 people were shot to death in 2012 and so far more than 1 person/day in 2013. Why hasn’t Obama spoken out about Chicago, or visited with the victim’s relatives like he did at Newtown, CT, or make a campaign-style stop there instead of Mpls?
Hey Libs, how about putting God back in the schools, courtrooms, government centers and reapplying the 10 Commandments, especially the 6th: THOU SHALL NOT MURDER? A little REVERENTIAL FEAR goes a lot further than more big government.

Dayton and Obama don’t figure there is enough criminals in Minnesota so they want to turn law abiding citizens into criminals too.

Dayton and the Minnesota legislature might make some South Dakotans too, Smartimus. Most of the South Dakota legislators have some common sense.

as a bleeding heart liberal and most of you know, i have to agree with you here. It’s not the guns fault. I’m thinking maybe more restrictions on videos games on the minds of young children instead??? I don’t know the answer.
